Home Care – Eligibility and Access
For many people, living independently in your own home can-be and/or will-become more difficult. In order to provide relief for individuals and families, The Australian Government subsidises the cost of home support services.
We acknowledge the difficulty and confusion faced by many when navigating through those Government websites, reading an abundance of information on support programmes and home care packages… We are here to tell you the cold facts!
Here is everything you need to know to get started on your journey to receiving financially assisted care.
Types of Home Care
In WA, depending on your preferences and eligibility, home care assistance is available in two forms:
Commonwealth Home Support Program
The Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) provides entry-level support services to senior Australians. Assisting them to live in their own homes and community and maintain independence.
Home Care Packages
Home Care Packages provides greater levels of aged care and support services. They are designed for those with more complex care needs, with four different levels of government subsidised care and support available.
These types of home care services available, include:
Bathing, hygiene and grooming, cleaning and laundry, meals and food preparation, home and garden maintenance, showering, getting dressed, transport, outings, and health services such as nursing, physiotherapy, podiatry, occupational therapy, respite, group activities and providing any help with impairments or continence.
How does it work?
The individual chooses a service provider and the government then pays that provider a subsidy to arrange a package of care services to meet their needs.
As everyone’s care needs are different, there are four levels of Home Care Packages with different funding amounts (from basic to high care).
Package level | Level of care needs |
---|---|
Level 1 | Basic care needs – $9,026.45 a year |
Level 2 | Low care needs – $15,877.50 a year |
Level 3 | Intermediate care needs – $34,550.90 a year |
Level 4 | High care needs – $52,377.50 a year |
But how do you know if you’re eligible for home care assistance?
